This was the most heart warming documentary family photography session in Kimberley, BC. As a family photographer in Kimberley, BC, when a long, lost amigo reaches out about family photos, you say 1000% yes, because it has been close to 10 years since you have seen him and you have yet to meet his beautiful wife and son! To make things even better, they are expecting their second child, so this was such a special time to hang with them as they soak up all of these last moments as a family of three.
Documentary Family Session in Kimberley, BC
I made the trip to Kimberley, BC after picking up specially requested, almond croissants and macarons from the infamous Le Bon Pain in Fernie. I always love the drive from Fernie to Kimberley, with the different landscapes as you move closer to the South Country and Cranbrook and where it becomes another cute, mountain town when you finally reach the end of the road in Kimberley, BC.
After arriving at this family’s cute, retro-alpine home, it was all sorts of wonderful getting to embrace my old friend and his beautiful family. We spent the first little bit of our time together, catching up on the last 10 years of life and what everyone was currently up to. With the short time I was there, it was truly so special to see what an incredible Dad and partner that Shane has blossomed into.

Documentary family photography sessions are one of my favourite things to shoot. I love getting to see the inside scoop of each and every family and what makes them different and so very special in their own ways. I love getting to see how they interact with one another, and find out and capture what makes each family authentically themselves. It is all about connecting and telling a story through my lens. For this little family, it was all about spending a sweet, Sunday morning together, just as they normally would had I not been there.
They played and explored, they snuggled, they read and they loved. It was beautiful to witness the love they had for each other and how they waited for their “Dove” to join their family very soon. This was such a lovely moment in their lives to help capture these sweet memories for them as they await their newest addition and adventure.
