Documentary Family Session in Fernie, BC

I spent a wonderful evening doing a documentary family Session in Fernie with the coolest and dreamiest family (The Rogers) that live just down the street from me in Fernie, British Columbia.

After spending time on their insane patio (all the vibes), enjoying a home-cooked meal and glass of wine, I carried my camera around with me, documenting this family doing everyday, after dinner activities – listening to records, playing in Sonny’s room, skateboarding + swinging in the hammock chair. This was one of my absolute dream sessions – I’ve admired this little family for so long. Their whole vibe is amazing, including their 70’s style home – bringing Palm Spring aesthetic all the way to the mountains in Fernie, BC.

Documentary family sessions are becoming one of my favorite types of session to shoot. I love how the moments captured are genuine + authentic, and it feels more like a family hang out than a photoshoot. Kids get to be kids, and their little personalities truly shine through when they are in their own environment, doing everyday things.

It is the simple, everyday moments that you will want to remember down the road when your kids are grown up – how it felt to snuggle up on the couch with them, when they skated down the driveway holding Dad’s hands for the first time, how excited they got when their favorite music started playing.

The best part about documentary family sessions is you can do whatever it is you love to do together, and can be as simple as reading a book together, exploring the garden, or baking cookies – the options are endless!
