A Winter Wonderland Family Session in Fernie, BC
It’s December and MOST of the time there is snow on the ground in Interior BC, but for this family session in Fernie, there was SO much snow, let me tell you! It was the first big snow dump of the season and we got about a foot of snow and it just didn’t stop, it just kept on snowing all day! Fantastic for the Fernie Alpine Resort and everyone who was heading up to the ski hill for opening day, which is where The Galway family was before our family session!
Michelle (mom) was very excited to document this stage in their families life; with different work schedules, it has been hard to have everyone together in the same place these days. Michelle was looking forward to a documentary-style family session, rather than feeling very posed, and to be able to look back on these memories down the road and remember how much fun they have together as a family.
Michelle also mentioned that she isn’t in a lot of photos with everyone, and I think that sometimes is the reality of being a mom – I’ve heard this SO many times from other clients and friends. Having a family photos done was such a great way to have photos of Michelle, with her family, so I made sure that I really focused in on her during the session.
We were planning on having a bonfire and roasting some marshmallows to showcase one of their favourite things to do together and make the photo session feel more like a family hangout than a photoshoot, but the mega snowy weather put a bit of a damper on things. We still made a fire, with Steve (dad) being the pyro expert and the rest of the crew supervising! It didn’t last long, but the kiddos still got to roast a marshmallow and eat a couple of raw ones too!
Even though it was the snowiest day of the year, I am so happy that we decided to stick with the plan. There was no shortage of snowball fights, blowing snow or snow angels. The photos are SO snowy but there is such a charm to them with all the snow, and this family will be able to remember how much fun they had together but also how AMAZING opening day was in 2023.
